Wasn't it just a few days ago that the Senate voted overwhelmingly to invoke cloture? What happened? Yes, the major part of the story is the NRA threatening senators. But, it is also time for the Senate Democrats to realize that they have, in Harry Reid, one of the worst Majority Leaders in recent history. Can you imagine this debacle happening on LBJ's watch?

That said, voters need to pay attention and write checks and send letters to the editors. Two Democratic senators in red states, Sen. Kay Hagan from North Carolina and Sen. Mary Landrieu in Louisiana, bucked the NRA and voted for the background checks. So did four Republican Senators: Sen. Susan Collins form Maine, Sen. Mark Kirk in Illinois, Sen. John McCain of Arizona and Sen. Pat Toomey from Pennsylvania. You may agree or disagree with these senators on any and all issues, but they voted the correct way yesterday and it might cost them. Those of us who support gun control need to have their back.
