Sustainable Development Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
The United Nations calls its 17 Sustainable Development Goals "the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all." With a target of achieving them by 2030, the goals are all interconnected and address the global challenges we face.
Goal 9 is "Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure." As the UN puts it: "Investments in infrastructure are crucial to achieving sustainable development."

The earthquake that struck Puerto Rico Jan. 7 damaged over 8,000 houses, leaving 2,500 uninhabitable. Thousands of people now live in tents, awaiting home repairs or afraid that their houses may cave in.

A 1968 famine inspired Sister Mary Lillian to find a way for people to earn money. The "Awakening" training center has trained an estimated 10,000 women since then. Often, this income is funneled to their children's education.
