Sr. Rose Pacatte, a Daughter of St. Paul and director of the Pauline Center for Media Studies in Los Angeles, who writes on media for NCR, has been chosen to receive the Board of Directors Award from Los Angeles-based Catholics in Media Associates.

The awards are slated to be distributed as part of a Feb. 28 Mass and awards brunch in Beverly Hills. Cardinal Roger M. Mahony of Los Angeles is scheduled to celebrate the Mass.

Columnist Heidi Schlumpf was profiled in the Chicago Daily Herald. The paper notes that Schlumpf "wrote her book, While We Wait" Spiritual & Practical Advice for Those Trying to Adopt, to encourage other parents going through the adoption process."

In October 2005, Heidi Schlumpf and her husband, Edmund, started the process of adopting a daughter from China. Nearly four and a half years later, they will leave this month to bring home the little girl they have decided to name Sophie.

Lauri Lumby Schmidt, who wrote about the Japanese healing therapy reiki for us last year: 'Reiki allows me to continue the healing ministry of Jesus', was featured in the PBS-TV program "Religion & Ethics NewsWeekly."

Last year, Schmidt wrote: "As a Reiki practitioner and instructor of “Christ-centered hands-on healing practices, I was deeply saddened by the release of the March U.S. bishops' Guidelines for Evaluating Reiki as an Alternative Practice."

The Detroit Free Press ran a piece Feb. 5 about Bishop Thomas Gumbleton's visit to Haiti at the ned of January and his subsequent trip to Washington to lobby on behalf of Haiti for diaster relief and debt forgivenness. Here's a short video (it may take a while to load.)
