Amityville Dominican Sister Associates Raise Funds for Non-Profits this Advent

As part of an Advent project, the Associates of the Sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville collected more than $2,800 in gift cards and cash for important non-profits. These charities include: the OPening Word program which helps immigrant women learn English and job skills; Visitation Community which helps immigrant families with rental assistance and food insecurity as well as temporary housing; and the Shinnecock people, a native tribe on Long Island.
In the picture, Amityville Dominican Sister Margaret Galiardi delivered $900 in supermarket gift cards and cash to Rebecca Hill-Genia, the president of the Padoquohan Medicine Lodge, a non-profit dedicated to the Shinnecock Tribe. The funds will be used to help those struggling with food insecurity and adequate housing there.
