Fond du Lac, WI – The Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes (CSA) was honored to receive the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Spirit Award during Marian University's 2020 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Prayer Breakfast on January 20. The Martin Luther King Jr. Spirit Award recognizes a person or group who has given of themselves to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and has gone above and beyond in the endeavors of equality, social justice and providing access to succeed. In addition, this person or group has played an important role in the Fond du Lac and surrounding communities, through the services provided.
Sister Jean Steffes, CSA General Superior, accepted the award, “Without each other we would not be able to take the stances that we do. … We promote human dignity for everyone, but we also say that in promoting that human dignity we don’t do it alone and we are enriched by those with whom and for whom we serve. We grow so much by participation with all of you and we hope that you grow in participation with all of us.”
She concluded her remarks with a quote from the morning’s keynote speaker, Truscenialyn Brooks, who reminded those in the room that Dr. King’s work was far from over: “We’ve still got something to do.”
