June 11, 2022, Has been Proclaimed Wheaton Franciscan Day

The Wheaton Franciscans, Daughters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, an international congregation of women religious, are hosting a Celebration of Presence in recognition of their 75th year of presence in Wheaton, Illinois, and their 150th year of presence in the United States.

The Celebration of Presence will take place on Saturday, June 11, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on their campus at 26 W 171 Roosevelt Road, in Wheaton, Illinois. This special anniversary event will include music by Churchjazz, an art exhibit by Anawim, food catered by Corky’s Catering, and guided tours of the campus including the peace path around the natural Illinois prairie, butterfly garden, and Cosmic walk. There will also be creative activities for all ages and several displays reflecting the mission and spirit of the Wheaton Franciscans.

Throughout their history, the Wheaton Franciscans have sought to compassionately respond to the needs of the times and to be a blessing in the heart of the world. On Tuesday, May 24, 2022, the DuPage County Board designated June 11, 2022, “Wheaton Franciscans Day” to honor the Wheaton Franciscan community for 75 years in Wheaton and 150 years in the United States. The proclamation recognizes the many and varied ways the Wheaton Franciscans have impacted DuPage County including the founding of Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital; the development of affordable and special needs housing; a commitment to spiritual growth through Tau Center; and the long-term and ongoing commitment to justice, peace, and the integrity of creation.
