Paying it Forward

HAMDEN, Conn. - The Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus recently delivered homemade cookies to first responders in Hamden, CT—where their Provincial house is located— in gratitude for their tireless service and dedication to the community.

The cookies were delivered on March 10 in conjunction with the Apostles’ annual Day of Giving fundraiser. March 10 is also the birthday of the Congregation's foundress, Blessed Clelia Merloni.

“We wanted to take the opportunity to give something back on the day when so many generously gave to us,” said Sr. Colleen Therese Smith, director of the Office of Mission Advancement for the United States Province. “It was our way of paying it forward and sharing the love of the Heart of Christ in the form of unexpected kindness.”

Founded by Blessed Clelia Merloni in 1894, the Apostles of the Sacred Heart of Jesus are consecrated women of the Church who share the love of Christ through active ministry in the areas of education, healthcare, social services, and pastoral and Diocesan leadership. The Apostles minister in five states and 15 countries.
