Several Associates of the Sisters of Saint of Dominic of Blauvelt joined the Sparkill Dominican Associates to participate in the Pajama Project to provide warm pairs of pajamas and books to children in need in the Hudson Valley, ages ranging from newborn to 12 years old.
The Pajama Project, whose mission is to “promote and support a comforting bedtime routine for all children to help them thrive,” provides “cozy pajamas, inspiring storybooks, and critical resources for parents and caregivers.”
In 2019, Blauvelt Dominican Sisters and Associates participated in this project with Sparkill Associates to deliver pajamas and books to children in need in Rockland and Orange Counties.
Cathy McCann, a Blauvelt Associate, expressed her gratitude to those who participated in this project.
“Because of your generosity, we can provide children in the Rockland County area with pajamas and a book this holiday season.”
Due to the pandemic, Cathy and Associates Mary Lou Cull and Maureen O’Dwyer Zeiss shopped on behalf of participants who did not feel comfortable going to the stores.
After shopping for the necessary items, Cathy, Mary Lou, Maureen, and Sr. Mary Jo Lynch, OP, wrapped and tagged gifts then delivered them to the Sparkill Motherhouse for final distribution.
Despite the setbacks caused by the pandemic, Cathy is grateful for the Pajama Project's tremendous support by sisters and associates.
“The need this year (for donations) is greater than ever, and I am happy we could make a difference to those children who are receiving our donations.”
