Sooley: A Conversation with John Grisham

World-renowned author John Grisham will be chatting with Sister Joan Mumaw, IHM, president and CAO of Friends in Solidarity. The free webinar, “Sooley: A Conversation with John Grisham,” is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. Eastern. 

John is the author of 37 novels, one work of nonfiction, a collection of stories, and seven novels for young readers. His novel “Sooley,” published in April 2021, tells the fictional story of a 17-year-old South Sudanese basketball player and the experiences of his family in South Sudan. 

Sister Joan is an IHM Sister from Monroe, Michigan. She spent 16 years in ministry in Africa, in Uganda, South Africa and briefly in South Sudan. She served 18 years in congregational leadership, six years of which she served as provincial of the IHM Overseas Missions visiting her sisters in Latin America and in several African countries. She is the founder, president and chief administrative officer of Friends in Solidarity, the U.S. partner to Solidarity with South Sudan.
