Sr. Christiane Philippon, 58, regional superior of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of the Apostles, was killed at about 3:00 am in Chad, on the road from Ba Hilli to N’Djamena. Philippon was traveling with three other sisters to the capital to attend a congregational meeting. The car was assaulted by bandits who opened fire and shot Philippon dead and wounded the other three nuns. 

The French sister had lived in Chad for 20 years, and for the last five, had been involved in family pastoral ministry in the diocese of Sahr. A year before her death, she was elected president of the diocesan association of women religious.
