Missionary of Charity Sr. Maria Indu Anastasia Xalxo was shot on Jan. 23, 1999 in Freetown, Sierra Leone by Revolutionary United Front rebels during the country's 11-year civil war.
Xalxo, from India, suffered grievous wounds from gunfire when the rebels attacked her and her fellow sisters, and died at a hospital in Conakry eight days later.
