Sr. Thea Bowman broke down racial and cultural barriers. She embraced her identity as an African-American Catholic woman within her predominately white congregregation. She gave spirited presentations, including a bold witness to the U.S. Catholic bishops. She died in 1990 at age 52. Her cause for sainthood is being promoted.
