Consuelo Vélez is a lay member of the Teresian Association, holds a doctorate in theology, and is a professor and researcher at the San Alfonso University Foundation (Bogotá, Colombia).  Vélez is a member of the theological committee of the Colombian Episcopal Conference and of the Colombian Association of Women Theologians.
