Statement of Adrian Dominican Sisters

on the Death of Pope Francis

April 21, 2025, Adrian, Michigan – On behalf of Adrian Dominican Sisters and Associates, the Congregation’s General Council issued the following statement in response to the death of Pope Francis.

We awakened this Easter Monday to the sorrowful news that our beloved Pope Francis, 88, has died.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (April 15, 2025) The Don Bosco Technical and Vocational Training Center in Makuyu, Kenya, has undergone much-needed renovations to improve the learning environment for students thanks to donor funding from Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (April 14, 2025) The Makeni Post Novitiate House, within the Salesian Sacred Heart Community in Lusaka, Zambia, was able to purchase library books and computer equipment to enhance student learning thanks to funding from Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (March 31, 2025)  Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, has launched an emergency appeal for donations in the wake of the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck Mandalay, Myanmar* on March 28.

The time of Jubilee is at hand! It is a sacred time to enter a holy space where we will meet the God of Jubilee. It is a time to rest in quiet moments of reflection, remembering the goodness and lavishness of a generous Creator. It is a time to dwell in the holiness of Jubilee time so that we can then dwell in the holiness of ordinary time.

Salesian missionaries establish primary, secondary and vocational schools in poor, remote places.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (March 28, 2025) Salesian missionaries are working to fill the gaps in education for youth living in conditions of poverty in some of the most remote communities around the globe. The United Nations Education, Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) noted in 2023 that more than 250 million youth worldwide are missing out on critical education. They either don’t have access to school or through a number of factors are not able to access education.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (March 22, 2025) Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco, joins humanitarian organizations and countries around the globe in celebrating World Water Day. Led by U.N.-Water, the organization that coordinates the United Nations’ work on water and sanitation, the day has been honored on March 22 every year since 1993.

Salesians around the globe work to ensure youth can live more fulfilled lives.

Ah yes, I remember it well. The day was Monday, Aug. 18, 2008. The car was packed. I pulled out of the St. Patrick Parish driveway in Monona, Iowa, made a left turn onto Highway 18 and headed to Dubuque. After six grace-filled, challenging, rewarding, and transformative years of serving as the pastoral administrator of St. Mary in McGregor, St. Patrick in Monona, and St. Bridget in Postville, I was retiring. My mind and heart were filled with awesome memories, great gratitude, and sincere admiration, along with serious concern.

The day honors the economic, political and social achievements of women while focusing the world’s attention on areas requiring further action.

Sub-Saharan Africa has highest rates of exclusion from education.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (March 3, 2025) Salesian missionaries in the Our Lady of Peace provincial community were able to provide 209 scholarships to youth who are disadvantaged thanks to donor funding from Salesian Missions, the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco. The Antonio César scholarship program took place in Benin, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Guinea, Mali* and Senegal.
