The United Nations calls its 17 Sustainable Development Goals "the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all." With a target of achieving them by 2030, the goals are all interconnected and address the global challenges we face.
Goal 17 is "Partnerships for the Goals." As the UN puts it: "A successful development agenda requires inclusive partnerships — at the global, regional, national and local levels — built upon principles and values, and upon a shared vision and shared goals placing people and the planet at the centre."
This series includes stories of sisters working collaboratively to build a better world.
COVID-19 worsened the blanket of insecurity and fear in the Democratic Republic of Congo, but the Daughters of the Resurrection in Bukavu — teaming up with other congregations — persist in their health care mission.
When we sisters started the Women's Global Connection ministry, we didn't know that the seeds would blossom with young people in conversations with participants all over the world. In 2021, young women worked together for successful presentations at the UN's NGO CSW Forum.
On Aug. 13, the Leadership Conference of Women Religious will hand out three Lifetime Achievement Awards, the first time the organization has given the award. The inaugural recipients are an economist, an advocate and a world traveler.
